Understand Reflexive and Intensive Pronoun the easy way!

Intensive and Reflexive Pronouns:

myself, yourself, ourselves, themselves, etc.

If a pronoun is removed in a given sentence and does not affect the meaning of the sentence, it is Intensive Pronoun, if it does, it is Reflexive.

Kapag may mga panghalip na nabibilang sa mga ***self/selves na pronoun--halimbawa't inalis ito sa pangungusap at hindi nakaapekto ang pag-aalis na iyon sa kabuuan ng pangungusap, ang inalis na pronoun ay Intensive Pronoun. Kapag naapektuhan naman ang pangungusap dahil sa pag-aalis ng pronoun, ang inalis na pronoun ay Reflexive Pronoun.

INTENSIVE:

You yourself must be responsible in maintaining your high grades!

Let's remove the pronoun.

You must be responsible in maintaining your high grades!

Did the meaning of the sentence change? No. So, the pronoun yourself in this sentence is an Intensive Pronoun.

REFLEXIVE

We treated ourselves to pizza.

Let's remove the pronoun.

We treated to pizza!

Did you notice the change in the sense of the sentence? Yes. So, the pronoun ourselves in this sentence is Reflexive Pronoun.

AGAIN:

Kapag inalis ang pronoun at hindi nabago ang ibig sabihin ng pangungusap, iyon ay Intensive Pronoun. Kapag naman inalis ang pronoun at nabago, tila may kulang sa pangungusap dahil sa tinanggal na pronoun, iyon ay Reflexive Pronoun.
